Last night it was decided to close down our seven mile long beach until further notice. šŸ˜¦ The locals arenā€™t happy campers today. If the decision was up to me, Iā€™d start by closing the beach to out of staters and non residents firstly.

Cā€™mon the likelihood this time of year bumping into another soul isnā€™t generally a happening, especially in the wee hours. Most walkers are there for only one reason.. to walk and get some fresh air.. surely not to congregate, especially when itā€™s 22 degrees out! So this will be one of the last sunrise shots.. unless I start digging through older shots. šŸ˜¦

Good morning from Maine. Check out those snow clouds. Yup… so says the weather app. Hopefully it will change over to rain later in the day, because I refuse to shovel anymore snow this year!! šŸ™‚ So how is everyone doing?

Of this, I can be fairly certain…. we are all in the same boat, some just have better seats than others. Hang in there, hunker down and we will get through this.

Right now my greenhouse is one of the most grounding, hopeful places in my world. Ā Marveling at the blossoms and new spring shoots remind me that nature at least hasnā€™t shut down. Itā€™s powerful creative force isnā€™t the least bit deterred by the struggles, heart break and uncertainty that we all are grappling with.

The rosemary cuttings are coming along nicely, as are the assorted hots and tomatoes. Having these unplanned home days has me considering adding some new veggies to the garden this season, that Iā€™ve not attempted before here… collard greens and okra!

I guess it will all depend on Mother Nature to see how they will fare. Next week Iā€™ll be setting the onions, shallots, spinach and cold crops. Keeping my fingers crossed the weather cooperates. šŸ™‚

I hadnā€™t planned to write this post. But then no one planned to be using words like ā€œsocial-distancingā€ or seeing the world panic-buying toilet paper and hand sanitizers, either. These are strange times. Many of us suddenly have more time than we know what to do with. I am safe at home here in southern Maine, but like the rest of you, weā€™re all worried about family and friends, and a little uncertain about just how long weā€™ll have to ride out the pandemic.

Weather permitting, Iā€™m still reaching out to the sunrise each morning on my daily walk. But the rest of my routinely busy days have surely been altered, though manageable. But then this morning, as I caught the morning news, it was disturbing to watch the shots and videos of Italy with emptied byways and streets. Not a soul around. šŸ˜¦ Though my heart goes out to them all, I couldnā€™t but help wonder whatā€™s ahead for us here in the states, even here in rural Maine.

I hope wherever you are, you are also safe and finding a way to get through this with courage and hope.. and hopefully much common sense. Be safe.

Cheese Rinds

Seasoned cooks save the leftover Parmesan rinds to impart umami to brothy dishes. Itā€™s a smart move.
