There might still be snow on the ground, but now is the time to sow your milkweed seeds for the summertime Monarchs. Milkweed is the only food monarch caterpillars eat, so that is where the adults lay their eggs.

Milkweed is easily grown from seed and is an inexpensive way to supply plants for butterflies, but needs a winter or cold period to germinate.

One easy way to “plant” milkweed is to spread the seed after a snowfall in an area where you want them to grow! First year plants do not bloom, but they still provide needed food for the hungry 🐛 caterpillars.
